Session description:

Special education is continually changing.  For regular and special educators and administrators, remaining current with Illinois and federal law and developments regarding special education best practices allows educators to anticipate and avoid issues relative to the identification, evaluation and placement of disabled students.  In this session, we will discuss the most important recent developments in the field that affect your practice, including the following:

  • The stretch run in the implementation of your RTI systems
  • New parental rights to observe in the classroom, and have their private consultants observe and examine a student or program
  • New parental rights and procedures regarding the revocation of consent for services
  • Update on special education discipline requirements and procedures
  • Recent litigation developments

In addition to the overview of important developments, there will be a general opportunity for a question and answer period regarding current special education issues that attendees may have regarding their service of disabled students.
