Session description:

Teachers are experiencing an ever increasing number of at-risk and troubled youth who are not only psychologically and physically neglected, but also rejected and abused.  Students are forced to navigate and contend with the incredible changes in our society and economic realities, resulting in stress and tension for many families.  Students who are not able to cope with these stressors will usually act-out and misbehave in your classroom; hence, trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.  This workshop will equip you with strategies to effectively face the unique challenges these students bring to your classroom.

We will:

  1. Explore causes of student misbehavior and review a framework for understanding it.
  2. Examine how our "frame of mind" affects our interactions with these students.
  3. Recommend strategies for managing our "frame of mind".
  4. Propose skills to establish better relationships with students
